Jackson Pollock (1912–1956), born in Cody, Wyoming, was a leading figure of Abstract Expressionism. After studying with Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League in New York, he developed the poured and dripped paintings of the late 1940s that changed postwar painting. He worked in Springs, East Hampton, with his wife, the painter Lee Krasner.
