Michelle Lopez (b. 1970, Bridgeport, Connecticut) is an American sculptor and installation artist of Filipino descent who lives and works in Philadelphia. She received a BA from Barnard College in 1992 and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1994. She first gained attention with "Boy," a leather-covered Honda shown in MoMA PS1's "Greater New York" in 2000. Over three decades she has questioned sculpture's assumed stability, strength and permanence through unexpected combinations of industrial materials. She is an Associate Professor of Sculpture at the University of Pennsylvania.
