The center does not hold, it blooms
Tamara Gonzales (b. 1959, Madera, CA) is a Brooklyn-based Mexican-American artist whose vibrant paintings blend abstraction with figuration. Influenced by indigenous cultures of the Americas and spiritual practices from India and the Caribbean, Gonzales draws on ancestral knowledge and Western modernism, using lace as a stencil to spray-paint layered patterns exploring veiling, ornamentation, and the interplay of opacity and transparency. Her work is held in collections including the Bronx Museum of the Arts and the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. Residencies include Yaddo (1999) and Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi (2001).
