Vibeke Mascini (b. 1989, The Hague) is a Dutch artist who uses electrical energy as the primary material of her work and as a catalyst for social and environmental awareness. Her past projects have engaged with electricity pulsing through the decaying carcass of a beached whale, eels, melting glaciers and human remains. For "Hammer Projects: Vibeke Mascini" at the Hammer Museum, she created "Zombie" and "Amber Highway," new commissions centered on a cast of a young ceiba tree with electric roots that foreground the practical and cultural implications of public lighting in Los Angeles.
