Y. Malik Jalal

Y. Malik Jalal (b. 1994, Savannah, GA) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores Black history, labor, and material culture through sculpture and assemblage. Grounded in traditional metalworking, he transforms steel, bronze, and found materials—such as car parts, archival fabric, and photography—into poetic reflections on Black interiority and Southern heritage. Jalal holds a BA from Oglethorpe University and an MFA from Yale School of Art. He has exhibited at MARCH Gallery (NY), Atlanta Contemporary, and Alabama Contemporary Art Center. Based between Atlanta and New Haven, his work navigates memory, transformation, and the politics of making.
