Join us for a dual book launch and conversation with Heidi Howard and Susan Bee, who will discuss their latest publications, Colors Make Us Do Vibrant Deeds!! and Reveries. A book signing will follow the evening discussion. Howard’s Colors Make Us Do Vibrant Deeds!! is the revised edition of Colors Make Us Do Vibrant Deeds!, Phoebe Press’s inaugural publication, which was also named amongst the 33 Best Dutch Book Designs of 2024. Since 2018, Howard has expanded their portrait practice into wall paintings and collaborations with their chosen family, architecture and nature. Howard’s publication resulted from a two-year dialogue between Howard and graphic designer graphic designer M.H. Orfanos about shared enthusiasm for art that transcends classification and becomes why and how we live. Saturated ink across the book’s 444 color pages illuminates the bright colors of Howard’s work. A spectrum of semi-translucent paper, handwritten notes, and meticulously curated photography emphasizes the blending between Howard’s adventurous life, paintings, and the people and spaces in which they thrive. Susan Bee’s Reveries is a long –– extended –– drawing. Bee has been producing unique leporellos (accordion books) since 2012, reveling in the spontaneity of the process and the slow unfolding of the pages. Reveries incorporates collages, line drawings, and watercolor and gouache paintings, made with colored pencils, crayons, and markers and housed in a uniquely designed and numbered slipcase. Each edition also features a unique length and color brightness. With its expanded field of colors and playful narrative, Bee’s latest publication is a dream, a vibrant folder concertina. The leporello Reveries is produced in a limited, signed and numbered edition of 30 copies.
