LACMA, Los Angeles
Artist Chase Hall discusses his research in LACMA's Blackburn Collection of Oceanic Photography, which comprises 9,700 objects and photographs made between 1840 and 2016 across 10 Pacific Island nations, with associate curator Dhyandra Lawson and LACMA director Michael Govan. Using surfing as a point of departure, Hall explores African American and Indigenous American histories and how vernacular photographs can expand perspectives on the past.
