Berry Campbell is pleased to announce Lynne Drexler: A Painted Aria, featuring works from the 1970s, a period in which Drexler (1928-1999) often dedicated herself to painting abstractions inspired by music. Drexler recalled that in the time she lived in New York City, she attended the Metropolitan Opera up to three times a week. There she would often create sketches while listening to performances. Drexler’s signature style, defined by her use of vibrantly contrasting hues applied in swatch-like strokes, translated the emotional intensity of these operas and performances into visual compositions of gestural intensity and color density.
