Hunter Dunbar Projects presents a survey of Joan Witek’s paintings, spanning 1969–2012, in collaboration with Artist Estate Studio, LLC. A key figure in New York’s downtown art scene, Witek explored monochromatic gesture, repetition, and materiality. From early monumental canvases to her ‘stroke’ paintings and later works drawing on myth and pictographs, the exhibition traces her evolving use of black as expressive, poetic force.
