Acadia National Park’s striking terrain has long inspired artists, from Hudson River School painters to contemporary realist Richard Estes. Known for urban scenes, Estes turned to Maine’s forests, focusing not on sweeping vistas but on fallen trees and tangled branches. These works echo the compositional complexity of his cityscapes. Created during 2020 isolation, Estes’s Acadia Park series reconsiders the overlooked, revealing a quiet, layered perspective on nature.
