Hollis Taggart Downtown presents Acquiescence, Elizabeth Abel's U.S. solo debut. Working in concentrated bursts on water-saturated canvas, Abel excavates sensation and memory through intuitive, urgent mark-making — paint applied directly from the tube, gathering around points of energy before dissolving into soft washes. Influenced by Martha Jungwirth and J.M.W. Turner, her compositions hover between figuration and abstraction, presence and absence. Restrained by an "economy of line," each work balances spontaneity with intention, offering receptivity over interpretation.
