"After World, 1980–1991" is the gallery’s first solo show of Abraham Lincoln Walker (1921–1993), a self-taught painter from East St. Louis whose work was largely unknown in his lifetime. A house painter by trade, Walker dragged oils with a palette knife across Masonite, paper and Formica samples, sometimes mixed with plastic beads, moving from narrative figuration toward near-abstract, celestial fields of color.
