In Aftermath, Vernon O'Meally paints diptychs pairing a free-form abstract panel, worked like jazz, with a hyper-rendered wreck of an American or European car icon such as a Chevelle SS, a Countach or the General Lee. Built around the X of the Confederate battle flag, the series moves through three stages: spectacle, reckoning and liberation.
