This exhibition of works by Rick Bartow (1946–2016) focuses on some of his darkest subject matter while holding fast to his belief in slivers of hope and recovering balance after tragedy. A Wiyot tribal member and Vietnam veteran whose art became an act of healing, Bartow populated his images with hybrid human-animal figures and transformation narratives. Featuring nine works on paper and a tar-and-wax horse sculpture, the exhibition presents Bartow’s use of the object as a study of sustained resilience.
