CARA’s fall 2025 exhibition E’wao Kagoshima: Animated Minds is the first retrospective of the Japanese-born, New York-based artist. Spanning from the 1960s to today, it traces Kagoshima’s vivid, humorous, and eclectic practice—works he calls shinshō, or “forms in the mind.” Drawing from mental landscapes and everyday detritus, his art merges figuration and abstraction with satire and dreamlike imagery, offering an inventive vision shaped by decades of experimentation.
