Assistants is a curated group exhibition exploring the interconnected personal and professional lives of five artists: Jennifer Bartlett, Tony Feher, David Gilbert, Wyatt Kahn, and Elizabeth Murray. The exhibition investigates the crucial role of studio assistants in bringing artists' work to fruition while examining rare and noteworthy relationships that share both personal and professional connection. Featured artists trace a specific lineage of mentorship and collaboration: Tony Feher worked for Jennifer Bartlett from 1985 through the early 1990s; David Gilbert assisted Feher from 2005 to 2008; Wyatt Kahn assisted Elizabeth Murray as a high school student in the early 2000s and later worked with Feher for 2½ years; and Bartlett and Murray formed a close lifelong friendship after meeting at Mills College in 1962. The exhibition features multiple works by each artist, showcasing the progression of their individual practices while illustrating the overlapping intellectual and aesthetic dynamics that shaped how they viewed and navigated their artistic lives.
