Becoming Marilyn

Staley-Wise Gallery New York · Tribeca / SoHo
Exhibition on view: Jun 18, 2026 - Aug 21, 2026

One hundred years after her birth, Marilyn Monroe remains one of the most photographed people in history. Becoming Marilyn traces that image from teenage Norma Jeane on the beach, photographed by André de Dienes, through her iconic Vogue sitting with Bert Stern weeks before her death. With images by Milton Greene, Philippe Halsman, Richard Avedon, Elliott Erwitt, and many others, the exhibition also considers her cultural afterlife—from Andy Warhol's silkscreen prints of her to Madonna styled in her image.

Featuring works by Slim Aarons, Eve Arnold, Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Jock Carroll, Patrick Demarchelier, André de Dienes, Elliott Erwitt, Ed Feingersh, Amy Gaskin, Allan Grant, Milton Greene, Philippe Halsman, David LaChapelle, Steve McCurry, Ed Pfizenmaier, Frank Powolny, Ben Ross, Lawrence Schiller, Sam Shaw, and Bert Stern.
