
Beetles, Cats, Clouds presents the work of Tsurita Kuniko, Yamada Murasaki, and Kondoh Akino, three manga artists who challenged gender roles in Japanese comics from the 1960s–2000s. Defying stereotypes in shōjo and shōnen manga, they used alternative periodicals like Garo, COM, and Ax to explore identity, autonomy, and social critique. Through original drawings, sketches, films, and publications, the exhibition highlights their groundbreaking contributions to countercultural manga
