Ling Jian: Between Figure and Fracture

Eli Klein New York · West Village / Union Square / Meatpacking
Exhibition on view: Dec 13, 2025 - Feb 7, 2026

Ling Jian: Between Figure and Fracture presents paintings that merge realism, surreal distortion, and digital-age unease. Using cinnabar patterns and precise brushwork, he turns tension and fragmentation into vivid form, shifting bodies into hybrids that hover between decay and renewal. Works moving from fractured figures to bamboo shoots and mythic portraits reflect humanity’s instability and resilience in a fractured technological era.

Ling Jian

Ling Jian, born in Shandong, China, in 1963, graduated with a BA from the Fine Arts Department of Tsinghua University Art College, Beijing, in 1986. Drawing on notions of female beauty and Chinese identity, his portraits are hyperreal and exaggerated. In recent years, fragmented bodies and surreal forms shift his work toward abstraction, reflecting traces of humanity amid technological alienation.
