California Split opens Official Welcome with work by June Edmonds, Jay Lynn Gomez, Henry Taylor, José Guadalupe Sanchez III, Barbara T. Smith, and Diane Briones Williams. Spanning five decades, the exhibition examines how bodies are represented and perceived in Southern California art. Through intimate, political, and poetic approaches, the artists explore vision, identity, labor, memory, and resistance—inviting viewers to look more carefully and reconsider what they think they see.
