This exhibition centers on Caravaggio’s early painting Boy with a Basket of Fruit, on loan from the Galleria Borghese. Shaped by Lombard naturalism and studio artifice, the work presents its model with striking physical immediacy, rejecting idealization. Shown alongside earlier Milanese examples, works by Annibale Carracci, and responses by Roman artists, the installation traces Caravaggio’s radical impact, concluding with Bernini’s drawing of the painting’s first owner, Scipione Borghese.
