Panteha Abareshi: CAREOTICS: on giving and taking

Human Resources Los Angeles · Downtown LA
Exhibition on view: Nov 1, 2025 - Nov 16, 2025

Human Resources Los Angeles presents CAREOTICS: on giving and taking, a solo exhibition by Panteha Abareshi examining how disabled bodies are marginalized yet made spectacle. Abareshi explores the duality of disability as performance, highlighting how lack of autonomy fosters fetishization and objectification. Drawing from personal experience with chronic illness, their work interrogates the monitored, medicalized body and its position in societal and institutional frameworks.

Panteha Abareshi

Panteha Abareshi (b. 1999, Montreal, Canada) is a Los Angeles–based multidisciplinary artist whose work confronts the intersections of chronic illness, disability, and identity. Born to Jamaican and Iranian parents, Abareshi’s practice spans performance, video, drawing, and installation, using their own body as both subject and medium. Living with a rare genetic blood disorder, they explore the medical gaze, bodily autonomy, and the tension between visibility and erasure. Through stark, intimate, and often confrontational works, Abareshi exposes the fragility of corporeal existence while reclaiming vulnerability as a site of power. Their work has been exhibited at MOCA Tucson, Human Resources LA, and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE).
