Chase Biado's Life on Earth opens a new chapter in the artist's work, where the fantasy realms of his earlier paintings give way to something more psychic and sensorial. The oil paintings gather ordinary moments - reading the newspaper, a therapy session, a drive through smoke, an embrace with a tree, a walk through an orchard, a stretch of beach - and render them in muted, desaturated color until each scene turns quietly strange. Biado foregrounds the mark itself, letting a single deliberate stroke stand in for rain and a dab for stone.
