Consequences of being presents new work by Deborah Roberts, including large-format paintings, works on paper, and her first ceramic sculpture. Using collage, found imagery, and text, the works examine how Black bodies, particularly children, are shaped, viewed, and positioned within global histories of colonialism. Expanding her focus to Germany, the Netherlands, and South Africa, Roberts addresses legacies of exploitation, consumption, and representation while affirming presence, agency, and cultural continuity.
