Vielmetter Los Angeles presents Corpus, Robert Pruitt’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. Monumental portraits rendered in conté, pastel, charcoal, and coffee wash depict figures layered with textiles, relics, flora, and celestial forms, merging the earthly with the spiritual. Drawing from religious iconography, science fiction, and African American mythologies, Pruitt reimagines the body, sometimes stripped to skeleton or circulatory system, other times buried in ornamentation, as a site of transcendence, memory, and identity.
