Cristina BanBan’s *Jaque Mate*, Spanish for checkmate, presents new paintings that treat the female body as permeable and constantly reshaped by its closeness to others. As in chess, every lean and point of contact shifts the whole composition. Interlaced figures, distorted flesh and layered surfaces explore intimacy, tension and desire in the charged space where bodies meet.
