Pilar Agüero-Esparza’s solo exhibition Darker than the Deepest Sea… Weaker than the Palest Blue explores her Mexican heritage and the politics of skin tone, focusing on Brown and Black skin. The exhibition reflects her grief after the loss of her partner, Chris Esparza. Through striped color field paintings and woven leather, she intertwines abstraction with her parents' cobbler tradition, using color to address issues of colorism and social dynamics, offering a unique and powerful exploration of race and identity.
