Artist(s)

David Scanavino
David Scanavino presents new encaustic paintings made on cowhide mounted to linen. Inspired by the bichromatic marble patterns of Romanesque architecture observed during a residency in Florence, the works use grids, stripes, and geometric forms to build structured compositions. Translucent beeswax paint flows across incised lines in the textured hides, revealing folds and marks in the material while linking architectural pattern with the physical presence of organic surfaces.
