DAVKA presents fifteen new paintings by Lisa Edelstein in her first New York solo exhibition. Drawing from her Jewish family history, Edelstein transforms discarded snapshots into luminous watercolor paintings that evoke memory’s haze and the diasporic experience of survival and reinvention. Titled DAVKA—a word suggesting defiance and insistence—the work carries ambivalent emotions, humor, and resolve. Cinematic and tense yet edged with slapstick, her subjects manifest endurance in the face of indifference within the conundrum of American suburbia.
