Defiant Imaginations at Vielmetter Los Angeles presents new paintings by Tariku Shiferaw that use mark-making and layered materials to explore resistance, visibility, and structure. Drawing inspiration from African diasporic music and abstraction’s visual language, Shiferaw’s works transform grids and translucent surfaces into meditations on confinement, freedom, and expansive ways of seeing beyond imposed systems.
