Nir Hod: Dorian’s Gardens

Michael Kohn Gallery Los Angeles · Hollywood
Exhibition on view: Oct 11, 2025 - Jan 31, 2026

Dorian’s Gardens expands Nir Hod's chrome and oil series 100 Years is Not Enough. The exhibition features reflective water-inspired canvases, intimate works on paper, a bronze sculpture, and a self-portrait nodding to Dorian Gray. Hod’s gestural mark-making and chromed surfaces invite viewers into a dialogue on beauty, vanity, fragility, and decay, intertwining art history with contemporary reflection.

Nir Hod

Nir Hod is an Israeli contemporary artist known for his provocative, hyperrealistic paintings and emotionally resonant conceptual works. Born in Tel Aviv in 1970, he studied at Bezalel Academy and Cooper Union before establishing his practice in New York. Hod explores themes of beauty, identity, memory, and decadence, often blending historical reference with glamorized imagery. Notable series include Genius, featuring aristocratic youths, and Mother, which reimagines Holocaust imagery to confront trauma through beauty. His work has been exhibited globally, including at MoMA and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and continues to challenge perceptions of history, narcissism, and aesthetic experience.
