*Emma Stebbins: Carving Out History* is the first museum exhibition devoted to the nineteenth-century American sculptor. Thirteen marble sculptures, many made in Rome, sit alongside paintings and archival material, including her bust of her partner, actress Charlotte Cushman. The show traces how Stebbins, who carved New York’s Bethesda Fountain, reimagined gender, sexuality and agency for women of her era.
