Entrance presents encaustic paintings by Zachary Armstrong installed within a site-specific intervention, alongside new work by his son, Jackson Maximo Armstrong. Engaging the neighborhood's culture and history, Armstrong reconstructed glazed orange tiles—ubiquitous in Lower East Side and Chinatown kitchens and seafood facilities—in his signature encaustic technique, extending the floor tiles onto the wall alongside hand-fabricated wainscoting and shelving. Eight new paintings hang in this environment Armstrong built, abstract works that began from a childhood sketch and cracked open a freedom he had never before allowed himself.
