This exhibition celebrates Esphyr Slobodkina, the Russian-born artist, author, illustrator, and pioneer of American abstraction. A founding member of American Abstract Artists, Slobodkina developed a distinctive hard-edge language of interlocking planes, color, and form. The presentation follows the gallery’s Independent 20th Century solo exhibition and renewed institutional attention to her career.
