Esther Ruiz & Vincent Szarek presents light-activated sculptural works that activate each other across the gallery — Szarek's highly polished reflective surfaces catching Ruiz's neon, Ruiz's colored light tracing Szarek's curves. Ruiz combines neon with concrete, plexiglass, and glass, each piece requiring exact alignment; Szarek builds wall-mounted sculptural paintings through laborious layering and sanding, his bilaterally symmetrical ogee-curve forms pursuing an ideal of smoothness and visual perfection. Both artists developed their practices through hands-on fabrication — Ruiz in a neon studio, Szarek in automobile restoration — experiences that continue to shape their precise, process-driven approaches to form.
