Catharine Clark Gallery presents Cruel Summer, an online exhibition of Kyle Coniglio’s major painting Sprawl (2023) and new drawings. Known for intertwining art history with queer camp, Coniglio depicts male figures in states of repose, vulnerability, and psychological depth. Sprawl uses color temperature as metaphor for heat, framed as a painting-within-a-painting. Drawings feature plaster casts, evoking heartbreak and empathy while subverting heroic tropes of the male figure.
