Torkwase Dyson: Seeing in Blue

PACE New York · Chelsea
Exhibition on view: Sep 11, 2026 - Oct 24, 2026

Torkwase Dyson’s *Seeing in Blue* presents new paintings inspired by her experiences as a deep-sea diver. Drawing on sensory memories, diagrams, photographs, engineering notes, and poetry, Dyson explores water as a force connecting ecology, Black geography, ancestral knowledge, and global politics. The works examine distance, light, perception, and the relationship between oceanic environments and human-built infrastructure.

Torkwase Dyson

Torkwase Dyson (b. 1973, Chicago) is an American artist whose paintings, sculptures, and installations explore the relationships between Black life, architecture, ecology, and space. Drawing on abstraction, environmental research, and Black spatial histories, she examines how built and natural environments shape movement, freedom, and survival. Her work often connects personal experience with broader histories of race, geography, and climate.
