Sunken Bust Shimmering Stone is Josh Cloud's first solo exhibition with Megan Mulrooney, featuring heavily adorned figurative busts and totemic abstract works built from clay, fiber, and found wood. The exhibition continues Cloud's investigation into the abstracted figure, where identity is conveyed through adornment, material illusion, and fragments of faces. Works from the 'sunken bust' series trace a gradual dissolution of the figure into abstraction, drawing on Yoruba sculptural traditions and the concept of the ori, folded into a queer autobiographical register. The show also includes purely abstract works, such as the monumental Totem, exploring natural cycles and the weight of life through ceramic and wood form.
