Nazarian / Curcio is pleased to present Fragile Familiar, a new series of paintings by Los Angeles–based artist Annie Lapin, marking her fourth solo exhibition with the gallery. In Fragile Familiar, Lapin turns to the California landscape as both subject and metaphor. Spanning intimate to monumental scales, these paintings capture the region’s sublime and surreal qualities while underscoring its inherent fragility—ecological, cultural, and perceptual.
Blending digital and analog processes, Lapin layers material drawn from her photo archive, online visual culture, and iconic works from art history. Through this interplay, she constructs painterly spaces that oscillate between familiarity and estrangement, where gestural intuition collides with fragmented visual memory.
