Friends Who Came to See Me: Drawings from John Ashbery’s Collection centers on works on paper from the collection of poet John Ashbery, donated by David Kermani. The selection focuses on Ashbery’s relationships with artist friends and reflects his long engagement with visual art as a critic and writer. The drawings span several decades and include many personal gifts, as well as portraits of Ashbery. The presentation also includes early collages by Ashbery and related books documenting collaborations with artists.
