Michel Auder: Ghostwriter

Martos Gallery New York · Lower East Side / East Village
Exhibition on view: Sep 11, 2025 - Oct 25, 2025

Ghostwriter traces Michel Auder’s lifelong use of moving images to probe identity, memory, and perception. Through films mixing staged performance, personal archives, and found footage, he examines ghostwriting as a spectral force that unsettles authorship. Works like Chasing the Dragon and Meshes of Derivatives explore mediated selves, while new films confront power, vulnerability, and the porous boundary between self and other.

Michel Auder

Michel Auder (French, 1944–Present) is a pioneering video artist whose diaristic films and digital works capture the raw, intimate flow of everyday life. Since the late 1960s, he has chronicled friends, lovers, and cultural scenes with candor and wit, transforming casual observation into psychological portraiture. His vast archive merges art and life, tracing decades of shifting identities, technologies, and social realities through a deeply personal lens.
