Giovanni Bellini’s Pietà (ca. 1470) will be shown in the United States for the first time following major conservation. Displayed in J. Pierpont Morgan’s Study, the painting depicts youthful angels quietly tending to Christ’s wounded body with restrained sorrow rather than overt grief. Its intimate, contemplative mood will be seen alongside Renaissance works from the Morgan’s collection, highlighting Bellini’s early mastery of emotional depth and devotional focus.
