John Collins: Graven Images to the Major Deities

Track 16, Hollywood Los Angeles · Hollywood

Graven Images to the Major Deities presents a new chapter in Los Angeles artist John Collins’s ongoing Moonlight Graham series, a daily painting project created over the course of each Major League Baseball season. Every night, Collins selects a single play from that day’s games and renders it in ink and brush on paper, treating each work as a devotional act. Featuring new works on Asian rice and mulberry papers alongside a suite of drypoint prints, the exhibition explores ritual, memory, and the mythology of baseball through more than a thousand intimate works created over multiple seasons.

John Collins

John Collins is a Los Angeles based artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, printmaking, and works on found materials. Best known for Moonlight Graham, an ongoing daily series chronicling every Major League Baseball season through ink and brush drawings, Collins approaches baseball as a ritual and source of spiritual reflection. Outside the season, he creates introspective figurative paintings on salvaged materials, transforming discarded surfaces into deeply personal works that explore memory, vulnerability, and self-examination.
