Guanyu Xu: Resident Aliens explores immigrants’ personal lives and domestic spaces amid political and bureaucratic pressures. Through installations photographed in participants’ homes, Xu merges personal archives and his own images to create layered, collage-like works. The series examines identity, intimacy, and social regulation, revealing the tension between personal significance and state-imposed definitions, highlighting the fragility and precarity of belonging.
