Julian Pozzi: Hole in Mouth presents fifteen paintings built from a drawing and mark-making vocabulary developed over two decades. The architectural and the organic trade places across the canvases — depicting fragility verging on collapse, or the aftermath of disaster. Incremental cross-hatching loses its way and surfaces transformed in surprising pools of rich color; built structures and collapsed forms push and pull, favoring beginnings and endings while skipping the middle. The paintings stop just short of being overworked, arriving at a delicate, not-quite-equal equilibrium — a place of rest a few steps ahead of the unfinished.
