I Bear Witness is Ambreen Butt's (b. 1969, Lahore, Pakistan) third solo exhibition with Gallery Wendi Norris and the culmination of a trilogy begun in 2015, rendering visible the lives and stories that acts of violence erase. Eight new works continue her examination of drone warfare, gun culture, and displacement, casting the maternal figure as both subject and witness. Drawing on the icon of the Madonna and Child, Butt positions witnessing as an act of holding grief, displacement, and care forward. Techniques including staining, stitching, and collage are rooted in Islamic ornamentation and sacred geometry.
