hatred 2 presents Cara Benedetto, whose multimedia practice interrogates the construction of value within entrenched cultural and ideological systems. Working across writing, performance, pedagogy, print media, and video, Benedetto embraces contradiction as a mode of critical inquiry. Her work draws from the language and imagery of popular media to expose how narratives of progress often mask and reinforce patriarchal, capitalist, and white supremacist structures.
Layering text with mass cultural references, she reveals the alienating effects of these systems—particularly in their maintenance of gender binaries and false promises of liberation. Each exhibition or publication becomes a site of activation, where scripts and live performances serve to engage, disrupt, educate, and provoke. Through these gestures, Benedetto challenges dominant ideologies while carving space for pluralism and resistance.
