Kevin Sabo: In Rare Form

Kevin Sabo (b. 1992, Virginia Beach, Virginia) is a painter based in Richmond, Virginia. He earned a BFA in Studio Art from James Madison University in 2015. His paintings center on stretched, theatrical figures—drag-inspired divas, often set against buttoned-up suited men—built directly on the canvas in acrylic with graphite, charcoal and conté crayon, with fashion, music videos and beauty culture as recurring references. His work explores gender, performance and queer identity with a satirical edge. Sabo has held solo exhibitions at RHODES Contemporary in London ("Louche" and "Head Over Heels"), Kates-Ferri Projects in New York, Edji Gallery in Brussels, Bim Bam Gallery in Paris and Katia David Rosenthal Gallery in Miami, and in 2026 presented "In Rare Form" at The Pit in Los Angeles. He has shown at NADA and Untitled Art, completed residencies including PLOP in London, and been featured in Architectural Digest and Metal Magazine.
