It Takes a Village is a three-woman exhibition of paintings by Andrea Castillo, Nancy Elsamanoudi, and Baran Shafiey. Though each takes a different approach to the human figure, all three elevate the mundane—telling a story, going to the bodega, having a smoke before bed—into something aesthetically and politically significant. In turbulent times, the exhibition proposes that quiet, everyday acts of solidarity build on each other and, with time, coalesce into change.
