Al Farrow: It's Not Dark Yet

Catharine Clark Gallery San Francisco · Dogpatch
Exhibition on view: Jun 6, 2026 - Aug 15, 2026

Al Farrow's solo exhibition features a sculptural bestiary of animal skulls made from his signature materials of guns, munitions, and bullets. Displayed atop pedestals and wall mounts like hunting trophies but with a darker conceptual edge, these new works function as memento mori—reminders of death—continuing a artistic tradition spanning from ancient Rome through contemporary times. Created from leftover materials from his 'Reliquary Series,' Farrow playfully combined gun parts in unexpected ways, eventually moving beyond gun heads to develop a series of human and animal skulls. The exhibition also includes two full-scale musical instruments—a cello and violin—made from the same materials and inspired by the Violins of Hope project, which recovered and restored Holocaust-era instruments as monuments to human resilience.
